When you have a chronic illness, you are coping every day. Even little tasks become very difficult depending on the day: drinking water, standing up, going to the bathroom, and brushing teeth. Somedays, they become impossible.
Some of you have been following my medical journey for a while. I appreciate you being around me figuring out my darkness. It was mentally and physically rough, especially when I hit a huge wall with pharmacotherapy (medication).
As you seek professional medical help, you soon realize that getting accurate help can be achieved based on your ability to communicate. It’s what you know about your situation and experience, and the skill to be able to fit relevant past trials in the short appointment time. Without being able to articulate what has been going on and your expectations, you get misdiagnosed which leads to mistreatment. The gap of communication and knowledge between healthcare provider and receiver (patient) is big.
I pursued nutrition and dietetics because I realized how much everyday eating impacts fluctuation in symptoms and the ability to carry out the required tasks for a better coping life. I have had some knowledge in psychology, anatomy and physiology, and chemistry that helped me understand how the body and food are connected. But not everyone has had the opportunity for such education to tie health and food.
There is so much work involved in managing health outside of appointments. Without understanding the “why”, it’s hard to motivate yourself to apply advice and intervention plans on a daily – maybe hourly – basis. My goal is to fill this gap of “why” through facts, knowledge, tips, and hacks revolving around eating, as well as background education on health.
I hope to give new ideas and clarification to reduce the feeling of being overwhelmed and spark motivation to eat every day.
